8 Weeks Left to Train!

I’m a huge fan of quotes, quote of the week “Be YOUR own health advocate”

So Monday’s are always difficult to start the week off on the right track.  I was supposed to get up at 5AM this morning to go workout, but instead with the rain/snow I decided to stay in bed.  Knowing that I only have 8 weeks left to train for the Nashville Half Marathon gave me the motivation for me to go after work.  The bike wasn’t doing it for me today, so I did the elliptical for the first time in almost two years!  I completely forgot how good of a workout it really is!  My heart rate was at 175 beats per minute for 25 minutes, and I got a great workout!  Today’s workout gave me the motivation that I needed for the rest of the week!  I’m looking forward to running about 15 miles this week, WISH ME LUCK!  Hopefully you’ll keep coming and checking on me 🙂

I am very inspired by this post. Just today – at the gym – I told myself that I needed to find someone out there who was training for a marathon on a blog so I could feel connected. I found your blog and will follow your progress for the Nashville 1/2 marathon! I have done 2 Half marathons (both in 2009) and like you, was pretty much a couch potato (oh, I love potatoes and every kind of food)and started moving and eating better. NOW I’m ready to think about a marathon. I’m thinking the San Antonio Rock N Roll in November. Keep up the great work – working out and writing!

    • Let me start off by saying that I LOVE potatoes! 🙂
I’m so happy that I helped inspire you! Were you a runner before you did the half marathon’s in 2009? Do you have any suggestions or tips? I’m really looking forward to it! I have only been running the past 2 years and so far the furthest I have run is 6 miles. I love it! Please do keep me updated on your progress with the marathon. 26.2 miles! Now THATS determination! What is the weathing like in San Antonio in November? I just got thirsty thinking about the heat and the running!!! 🙂 Have a great day!

I started working out about 5 years ago when I was told I was at high risk for osteoporosis, which led to running (jogging). I ran a 5K when I was new to the whole thing and thought I’d die, it was so hard. The next year is when I did the 2 halfs. To me the hardest part of each run is the first 30 minutes. Today I ran 45 minutes with a friend who can run and never stop. It was hard (esp. those first 30 minutes) but I was glad I stuck it out. Then I went into a 1 hour Bodypump class. This is a lot for me in one day but I figure I need to “build a base”…at least that is what I read on a marathon website. I’ve learned I train better in a group than alone so I will find a group and either do the whole OR the 1/2 and try to improve my time. November can be cold or warm in San Antonio and for a run, cold is better!

    • You have no idea how relieved I am to hear that I’m not the only one that has struggled. I think I need to complete the rest of my training outside, riding my bike at least 10-12 miles each time, and with the running. The treadmill isn’t going to cut it. How’s the osteoporosis?
